Landmarks

Our morning beach-walks fall into a predictable pattern. As we approach the beach we set our goal, using our nicknames for the buildings we use as landmarks.  For example, this morning we set "the cube" as our destination.

This building is about 2/3 of the way to the public beach (see the trees on the left edge of the photo below) -- which Jack measured on Google Earth to make a walk of about 3 miles round-trip.

When we don't want to go as far as the cube, we can set "the factory" as our mark,

or days when we are not up for walking far, use the "big bay  building" as the point where we turn around.
Judging by the lack of people on the beach (mind you, it's about 9:30 AM), not many of the units in these condos are occupied.

A walk along the beach makes a good break in the morning work period -- currently I'm reviewing literature and making notes on articles that discuss design thinking as an embodied, situated practice - this will make a third discourse stream in our paper on design thinking as a semantic marker.  And a walk makes a good time for us to discuss "important topics" - today, for example, Jack posed his theory that my Facebook and blogging activity means that we seldom hear from our children - they check my blog so know what I/we are doing.  Otherwise they might call or email to ask how we are and share our news.  Do I hear any rebuttals?
